A little bit of colour therapy to brighten your day!

19 Apr

After a bit of a break away from my beloved ‘Rock Ribbons’ blog, I think it’s time to get back into it and what better way than with a little bit of colour therapy from Pantone to brighten you day!

Check out these lovely shades below which you will see the influence of in store over the next few months. With the changing season, the greens from spring evolve and develop yellow-toned Linden Green brings a lightness and brightness to the deeper shades of fall. Try pairing both with Mykonos Blue, a bold, meditative blue, for a classic and relaxed fall look.

Exotic Acai adds mystery and richness to the palette, and can be incorporated with the other colors to create a number of powerful fall combinations. Pair the elegant shade of purple with Emerald for a regal disposition, or spirited Samba red for an expressive and dramatic look. Koi, a decorative orange with dazzling and shimmering qualities, is a statement color that serves as a pick-me-up for your wardrobe. Vivacious, an unruly and wildly deep fuchsia, adds an ebullient sensuality to the palette.

Pair Vivacious with anchoring Deep Lichen Green, a naturally lush shade of green, for a dynamic juxtaposition that captures both ends of the seasonal spectrum. Rounding out this season’s cornerstone colors, Turbulence, a dark mercurial gray, and Carafe, a rich, glamorous brown, provide more interesting and sophisticated alternatives to the black basics usually worn in colder months. Both staple neutrals pair gracefully with more expressive colors within the palette, such as Samba, Koi and Vivacious.

Fashion Friday :: Monochrome Magic!

1 Feb
the-night-circusTodays post has been inspired in part by an interesting novel that I have just started reading called ‘The Night Circus’ by Erin Morgenstern.
The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.
Is there anything easier and more classic than monochrome with a dash of red? It always looks timeless, crisp and translates into everything from fashion accessories to home wares.

A perennial classic, monochrome remains so eminently wearable in that it is both striking yet conservative, the ultimate in juxtaposition. This is a timeless trend which will never go out of style due to the elegance and simplicity exuded by the colours.

Some in the crowd smile knowingly, while others frown and look questioningly at their neighbours. A child near you tugs on her mother’s sleeve, begging to know what it says. “The Circus of Dreams”, comes the reply. The girl smiles delightedly. The iron gates shudder and unlock, seemingly by their own violation.

They swing outward, inviting the crowd inside.

Now the circus is open.

Now you may enter.

Dulux have broken up their trends into six different colour movements, Merge, Seek, Empower, Rise, Share and Blur. Today I’m sharing with you the last movement in the series, Blur.

We are in motion, movement is all around us – a blur of colour, a subtle shift of light, a merge of shadows. Movement is social change, the rise of a nation, the protest of people, the progress of the digital age. The Dulux Colour Forecast – Colour Movement, explores how colour is moving around us, shifting and changing along with our world and all that is in it.

Todays movement is :: SHAREShare Oblong

With a new generation embracing digital technology, Share invokes the idea of a world drawn together, with people sharing and soaking up information daily via social media, stimulated and inspired constantly by technology.

Share provides a break from this stimulation with a monochromatic palette allowing digital pattern, positive and negative space, tonal shadows and texture to create the mood. Colours are inspired by natural stone and metals transformed with technology.

Rise Oblong

Somewhat austere, the Japanese design aesthetic is calm, quiet, considered and above all functional – a design style that is fitting with today’s need for a cocooning, composed environment and a space for contemplation.

Sooth your senses with the almost ethereal soft shades of Rise, a palette of sophisticated pastels that allows otherwise bulky forms to appear light and even soft.

Todays movement is :: SEEK

Seek Pallete

Curators of our era, we seek out items precious to us; collecting and gathering, fossicking in our past for something treasurable to re-use and reinvent. Collections of objects posses past histories from different times and places, having been inherited, salvaged or hand made.

The Seek trend has a distinctly vintage feel, modernised with saturated gold, green and rose hues. Move on as you look back, recalling various eras while creating your own Seek inspired space.
