Rock Ribbons Moroccan Pouf

Each one of these leather poufs are individually made by artisans in Morocco and ethically purchased using fair trade. After sourcing and buying the goat skin, it is cut and hand painted or dyed, then sent to the outskirt of Marrakech to be stitched and finished with silk embroidery by local Berber women to show off expert craftsmanship and a result that is durable and will stand the test of time. There are five people involved in making each pouf and it takes up one day to complete it.

They are all wonderfully unique, with subtle variations in the colour of the leather and will look beautiful and last for many years to come. Below are all the colours I have in store but if there is a colour you love and you don’t see it here, please send me a message and I’ll see what I can do!

Dulux Colour Forecast for 2013 :: Seek

1 Jan

Colour Movement

I’d like to share with you the Dulux Colour Forecast for 2013. Dulux have broken up their trends into six different colour movements. As a special event this week I’ll be sharing each of the six movements with you over the next few days.

Six portions

Each trend has been inspired by different cultural and environmental factors and explores how colour is moving around us, shifting and changing along with our world and all that is in it.

Todays movement is :: SEEK

Seek Pallete

Curators of our era, we seek out items precious to us; collecting and gathering, fossicking in our past for something treasurable to re-use and reinvent. Collections of objects posses past histories from different times and places, having been inherited, salvaged or hand made.

The Seek trend has a distinctly vintage feel, modernised with saturated gold, green and rose hues. Move on as you look back, recalling various eras while creating your own Seek inspired space.

New collection :: Contemporary charm bracelets.

27 Apr

I would like to present my new collection for ‘Rock Ribbons’, contemporary charm bracelets. I’ve woven together six meters of 3mm satin ribbon in beautiful colours.

The ribbon is cut into eight lengths and woven together on a Kumihimo loom. Intersected into this design are seven large (10mm) genuine baroque pearls and semi-precious gemstones and each elegant charm bracelet is finished off with either a gold or silver magnetic clasp.

The term Kumihimo in Japanese means the gathering of threads. The literal translation of Kumihimo means the coming together (kumi) of threads (himo).

These beautiful charm bracelets are available now to purchase from:

Markets: Friday (29th April) at the BrisStyle Indie Twilight Markets (5 – 9pm), King George Square, Brisbane City.

Retail: In my In.cube8r cube at the great new location in 368 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley, Brisbane.

Online: ‘Rock Ribbons’ Etsy store.

Style Trends :: Pearls are in for Summer

21 Jul

Many who follow the fashion world are wondering if pearls are on the menu for the 2010 summer season. ‘Oriental Pearls’ says that trends generally flow off of what the celebrities are wearing, on screen and off, and the answer seems to be a resounding Yes!

On screen, Sarah Jessica Parker burns on the Sahara with her girlfriends, but several scenes show her still wearing her long trademark strand. Samantha, Miranda, Charlotte and Carrie have all sported pearls at various landmark scenes throughout ‘Sex and the City’’s famous run.

Are Pearls In for Summer, 2010? Designers are playing off the celebrity interests as stars come back to Pearls. On the late show circuit, Katherine Heigl appeared on Letterman wearing a bright yellow summer dress with a stunning wide band black belt and matching bracelets – and a midlength strand of large white pearls that had viewers gazing in envy. The former ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ star will be appearing next with ‘Mister Demi Moore’ – Ashton Kutcher and Katherine costar in ‘Killers’, and trailers show at least one stunning extra long necklace being sported by Heigl.

We’re seeing stars come back to pearls as a mainstay,” comments Lan Toma, representative of ‘OrientalPearls’. “They are very prominent this year, as usual we expect designers will be playing off of the celebrity interests and creating clothing that pearl necklaces will combine well with. We’re also seeing lots of big mabe pearls earrings – the bigger the better – and we believe this is a trend setting move as well.”

Pearls aren’t just showing up in jewelry – Lady Gaga performed at a recent gala with dozens of pearls glued to her face, body and legs in an attention getting display typical of the singer.

“People are starting to realize that pearls are more than just something to be worn as a necklace or earrings’” commented Lan Toma. “Not everyone will glue pearls to their body, but I think that act made people stand up and take notice, saying ‘wow, there is so much versatility here’. It’s the same thing we saw when Michelle Obama became First Lady – the pearls mixed with the beaded pins and the diamonds – she showed us that you can have pearls and have fun, too.”

Pearls, pearls and beads, pearls and precious stones, and pearls with gold or silver are only a few of the combinations that can work for summer fashion. The key, is letting your personality shine through. Pearls don’t mean prim and proper anymore. These beautiful women showed us that you can enjoy the femininity of pearls in a modern, creative and fun way.
